I first made these cute soaps when I was a Girl Scout Leader with my junior troop. They had a lot of fun making them and I think they are cute reminders of summer! So in keeping with my summery theme this week here is how to make popsicle soap.
Aren't they cute?? They definitely give me a summery feeling in the shower.
So how do you make them? You need these supplies:
5. Take your spoon and mix in up-- not too vigorously because you don't want bubbles.
Don't forget-- I have a giveaway going on right now....head over for your chance to win a Starbuck's Giftcard AND a Barnes and Nobles Gift card.
Aren't they cute?? They definitely give me a summery feeling in the shower.
So how do you make them? You need these supplies:
Popsicle mold
glass bowl or measure cup
spoon for mixing soap
sharp knife for cutting soap
glycerin melt and pour soap (found in most craft stores or buy a block of scent free/dye free glycerin soap at your local grocery store)
candy flavoring**
coconut oil
popsicle sticks (I used the small ones which were perfect)
microwave, paper towel
Optional- instead of the candy flavoring you can definitely use soap coloring and scent
**I have used the candy flavoring in several soaps without an issue BUT you may want to do a test just to make sure that the coloring doesn't stain you or your tub. I like using the candy flavoring because it adds scent and color all in one go. It made it very cost friendly when I made these with my girl scout troop and we didn't have a lot of money then!
How to make your soap:
1. Wipe the inside of your popsicle mold with a little bit of coconut oil- this will help when you are ready to take your soap out.
2. Cut your soap into small cubes and put in a microwave safe bowl or glass measuring cup.
3. Microwave your soap for 15-20 seconds on high. Stir. If necessary, microwave for another 5-10 seconds if it needs to melt some more.
4. Add a few drops of your candy flavoring OR some soap coloring and scent. How much? Well that depends on how strong of a scent you want.
6. Now carefully pour into your greased popsicle mold. Then stick in your popsicle stick. You might have to let it cool slightly before the stick will sit upright in the soap but usually within a couple minutes, it is cool enough to hold up the stick. So don't walk away for too long or else the soap will harden too much to get the stick in!
7. Allow the soap to cool for about an hour before pulling it out. You might want to take a small sharp knife and go around the edges. Occasionally the stick will pull out but once you get the soap out, you can stick the stick right back in and it should stay.
There you have it.....a summery craft for a cold winter day. Summer will get here eventually....right?!?
Those are super cute! My kids would love them (and my 5 year old would probably give them a taste test. sigh.)

If you use the candy flavoring then they really smell like they would taste good :-) I know some of my girl scouts wanted to give them a try.....I told them to go for it but I doubted they would taste good-- just soapy! It is a fun craft and they look so real.
