Craves and Confessions for February 14, 2013

It is the middle of February already and Valentine's day is here.  This is the last school party for SJ which means that it is the end of an era here On A Hill.  I have been attending school holiday parties since H was in kindergarten in 2001.  That means I have been to many, many, many school holiday parties!  So another chapter ends and a new one begins.

Every single year when the calendar hits February and March, I start craving Spring and Summer.  As much as I love seeing the seasons change here in Michigan, by this time, I am done with winter.  So many of my craves have to do with dreaming of summer, sun, gardens and hot weather!

Craves for February 14, 2013

1. My Garden: Last week I decided it was time to get my seeds going for this year's garden.  I planted some large tomato plants, red pepper plants, pie pumpkins, some dill and then after finding two packets of flower seeds, I decided to give them a try as well.  The flower seeds sprouted within a day and half so I am so glad I added these to the mix.  We'll see if they ever flower but at least I have something growing.

2. Enamelware bowls: A friend I worked with a few summers ago is selling stuff off so she can move out of the country (it is a long sad story and I wish her all the best because she so deserves some good in her life).  Anyway she listed some enamelware bowls that I feel in love with.  After some internal debate, I decided to ask her about them.  She then found out they were worth more than she was asking so of course I told her to sell them for the higher price but I would have to opt out.  After trying for awhile with no luck, she offered them to me at the original price.  I had planned on using them for decorative purposes but now that I have been able to see how large they are, I am excited to use them when picking produce in the garden and for canning this year!

3. Our "Christmas" Tree: Hubby brought home the Christmas tree that they used in their office this year.  His boss chose a real tree that can be planted later on.  We had hoped to get it planted before the ground froze but hubby kept forgetting the tree at work.  I worried that it wouldn't have been able to adjust anyway to the colder temps since it was used to be indoors.  After hubby remembered to bring it home, I stuck it in the corner of our kitchen/dining area hoping that it would survive the winter.  So far, so good-- look at all the sprouts it has!  Come on little tree!  (please ignore the laundry baskets in the background.  I had planned on cutting them out of the picture but didn't edit the photo right away and now I cannot find the tools to edit it!)

4. Last and kind of least: Winter: Yes I know I complained about the winter in the beginning of this post but sometimes winter can surprise you with some beauty.  That is exactly what happened this past weekend.  We had quite the storm on Thursday/Friday night with lots of heavy wet snow.  Then it got cold.....below zero on Saturday morning and we woke to a winter wonderland.  All the trees were coated in ice and snow, the sky was really blue and the sun was shining.

Confessions for February 14, 2013

1. Soda and Eating Out: Last Wednesday H and I ventured to the med center so that he could have his blood drawn.  After he survived the pokes, I stopped to get him some breakfast.  Of course I had to get some as well.  Strike 1.  Then after I got him back to school, I went to run errands and ran through the drive thru once again for lunch.  Strike 2.  I woke up the next day in the middle of a flare, feeling horrible.  That was my strike 3.  I learned my lesson.  Well until Hubby and I went shopping and out to eat on Saturday.  That however did not sit well and then I definitely learned my lesson.  Stay away from processed foods for awhile.  Yes I listened to my body and it is thanking me now!

2.  No Jobs on the Horizon: There for awhile there were at least a few jobs for me to send my resume in for but the past two weeks, there has been nothing at all out there.  Therefore no interviews, nothing.  Blah!  I really need to refocus and start working on my side project again.  Especially with no prospects in my sights.

3. Trusting the Dog too much: We installed an invisible fencing system just a few months after getting Cosmo.  It was so worth the money as it keeps Cos in her yard, safe and sound.  This past fall however, Cos came inside without her collar.  After searching the yard for days we decided it just couldn't be found.  So we put Tinker Belle's collar on her.  It worked just fine until this past weekend.  Apparently the battery died and Cos being Miss Smarty Pants figured it out and so she left her yard to find SJ.  Since she was with SJ, we allowed it.  But yesterday Cos decided to venture out of the yard and visit others since SJ was inside.  So now, instead of allowing her to go outside and roam as much as she wants....we have to watch her the entire time she is out or go out with her.  She doesn't like having her freedom crimped!

There you have it-- some craves and some confessions.  What are yours for the middle of February?
