Welcome to the first weekly menu post of 2013 here On The Hill. We are suppose to have a somewhat of a roller coaster weather pattern this week. Cold for a few days and then warmer (if you count 40 as warm) for a few days. I often try to take into account what the weather is going to be like but.....I have to admit, this week's menu is somewhat uninspired. I have been looking for new recipes and have a quite a few I want to try. But that is where it has been left off-- the recipes are sitting there but I haven't gone through to see if I have the ingredients. I do promise that soon I will be incorporating some new recipes!
I also want to mention another new feature to my weekly menu. Each week I will share with you a tip, recipe, review of a recipe we tried and maybe even some poll questions. I want to share a little bit more than just my menu each week. Let me know what features you like the most (as I get to them all) so I can plan on sharing more!
Monday: Crockpot Potato Soup and homemade bread
Tuesday: Impossible Cheeseburger Pie
Wednesday: Steak and taters
Thursday: Spaghetti- maybe with clam sauce- yum!
Friday: Chicken Pot Pie
Saturday: Whatever catches my fancy-- I haven't decided yet!
This tip definitely isn't something new- but I do want to give you some background so you can understand why I am now a fan. Back when BB was a baby, I decided to stop grocery shopping every week. At the time both Hubby and I were paid twice a month- the 15th and 30th. It certainly helped with our grocery bill and we saved money. But that isn't my tip :-). My tip is: Wash your produce when you get it home and it will be all ready for you in the fridge. I know others have been touting this concept for years but as you can imagine, washing produce after you have gone grocery shopping for 5 people is almost the last thing you want to think of. I mean, I have half a month's worth of groceries to take care of. I always thought that while the tip sounded good, it just didn't work for me. However....a couple of years ago, I decided to wash up the celery, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower I had just bought and stored it in the fridge all washed. Do you know what happened? My kids, myself and my hubby all started eating these veggies as snacks. Our chip/junk food consumption went way down. Our veggie and fruit consumption went way up! I do wash grapes and cut up pineapple when I buy those fresh. I have found that we prefer the big huge carrots over the little so called baby carrots. Yes it takes me a few minutes to wash and store things but....I rarely throw out veggies anymore (and I used to all the time). So give it a try and see if it makes a difference for your family.
Thanks for stopping in at Country Living On A Hill, I hope you enjoyed your visit. I will be linking up with Orgjunkie and her MPM as well as on Healthy Branscom's Menu link up. Both sites are great places to get lots of ideas for your next menu.

Your crockpot potato soup sounds so delish! I will have to add that to my menu soon! Thanks for linking up! :) Erin
