Today I just wanted to share a few tips that I am may have shared before, but I have actually suggested these to friends recently. Since I think these tips are that good they are worth sharing again!
If you have any tips to add or more info to add to these tips, please leave me a comment as I am always looking for new ideas.
I had a friend on facebook recently comment that her poor son was suffering from acne. They tried a sulfur mask that actually caused more harm than good. For the past year and a half my kids have been using Witch Hazel on their faces. It has done an awesome job at keeping their acne under control. Yes they have the occasional break outs- more so when they forget to use the witch hazel although I suspect hormones play a part as well. You can either wash your face with a mild soap first or just use the witch hazel to help clean your face (cause I know my kids usually skip the washing first). I have also used witch hazel on cold sores and other cuts. I have never had it sting at all so it shouldn't hurt when you use this on your acne.
Another tip that BB tried once with some spots of very stubborn acne was to dab a small amount of tea tree oil on the spots. This helped to clear up those areas that just seemed to become more inflamed than others. Just the tiniest dab on each spot once a day and it really helped to clear these areas up.
Another use for tea tree oil that is definitely needed this time of year is for the prevention of getting head lice. BB has the thickest hair I have ever encountered. When she was younger, she absolutely refused to let us brush her hair (she did brush it herself but I was not allowed to brush it or to ever do her hair-- she has anxiety issues and this was one of them). I lived in fear of her getting head lice and we would have to comb through that thick wild hair for nits and she would not be able to handle the stress of the task. I found a tip to add some tea tree oil to shampoo and to use this every time she washed her hair. You can now buy shampoo with tea tree oil in it- I would imagine it would work the same way. I cannot guarantee you that this will work BUT- we never had to deal with head lice ever. So either we were extremely lucky or the tea tree oil really works!

I'd like to share a little note on the acne. I think the witch hazel is a great help. When my oldest daughter hit her teens she started get quite a case of brake outs. We really couldn't afford a dermatologist so we worked on trial and era. What I noticed with her was that she was cleaning her face too much(I know that sounds backward)Most things on the market were too harsh. She also was a victim of stress. She had a very heavy schedule and she pushed herself. She would appear very collected but I started noticing when she had breakouts she was really stretched too thin.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that stress plays a HUGE part in acne. I think it is often overlooked most times. When my oldest started suffering acne we tried those mass produced products that are on the shelves and marketed towards teens. You are right, they are very harsh and sometimes there seemed to be a backlash after he tried to stop using them (as in the acne came back worse). I love the witch hazel and try to tell everyone about it. It has been a huge benefit for my teens.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Good tips to know. It's great how much we can switch over to start doing naturally. I know acne washes are filled with chemicals. Nice to have a natural alternative!
ReplyDeleteAnd one that works on teenagers! I worried that they would still have breakouts often but if they the witch hazel every day, they really don't. What I wouldn't have given to have known about it when I was a teen. The stuff we could buy back then made my face burn, turn red and made me miserable. I can use witch hazel without any issues!
