First off let me say that fears and phobias are no laughing matter to those who are trying to deal with them. I should know as I have a huge deathly fear of snakes. However, in the spirit of Halloween, I thought it would be fun to look at some of the fears and phobias and poke some fun of those of us on a hill. I mean no offense to anyone struggling with any issues.
As stated above, in the spirit of Halloween, October and all things creepy, weird and crazy, I did some research on fears and phobias. There certainly are a great many of them out there! Some of the ones that we suffer from here on a hill are:
Aichmophobia: fear of needles or pointed objects. Hubby hates needles. After an accident he needed a tetanus shot and boy did he do everything in his power to try to talk the doctor and nurses out of getting the shot. I have to admit, he was worse than the kids.
Arachnephobia or arachnophobia: fear of spiders. Poor Hubby- he is getting hit right off the bat with another phobia! I am the spider killer in the house. Hubby can kill one if he has to but would rather someone else did the killing. Miss BB hates spiders as well and will run screaming from a room if she sees one!
Neopharmaphobia: fear of new drugs. I have to admit that with all the adverse reactions I seem to have to prescription medications lately that this definitely is one of my new phobias. I hate the thought of having to take anything new because I just know something weird is going to happen. I think there also needs to be a fear of the doctor refusing to believe that you are really having a reaction too. Cause I definitely suffer from that one as well.
Ophidiophobia: fear of snakes. As I stated above, I have a deathly fear of snakes. Not just a "they creep me out" fear but a "stop breathing, flight immediately" fear. Hubby is suppose to help keep me away from them when we are out walking but I have a much better radar and almost always see them before he does (heck he has even stepped over them and left me behind because I refuse to move). We came upon some when I was pregnant for SJ and hubby was sure he was going to have to call an ambulance to get me out of the weeds were were walking in. Ugh!
Nomophobia: fear of being out of mobile phone contact. Now I am fairly certainly that many teenagers probably suffer from this. I know Mr. H definitely would have issues! In fact his phone fell into the water this summer and while it was drying out he had to borrow hubby's phone so he could still text his girl friend!
Lipophobia: fear/avoidance of fats in food. This might not be exactly what this fear truly is but both my boys have a huge issue with any fat on their meat. Any steak, pork, chicken that has even a tiny piece of fat on it is avoided at all costs. Or I am asked to cut away that nasty fat. I get it, fat is gross but geesh.
Here are a few that thankfully we don't suffer from here on a hill. It would make for some crazy living if we did!
Bibliophobia: fear of books
Achluophobia: fear of darkness

Bibliophobia: fear of books
Ephebiphobia: fear of teenagers (this would be very difficult since we will have 2 in the household as of tomorrow!)
Lachanophobia: fear of vegetables
Ailurophobia: fear of black cats
And last but certainly not least here are some additional phobias that I found interesting-
Deipnophobia: fear of dining or dinner conversations
Nebulaphobia: fear of fog
Plutophobia: fear of wealth- if anyone has this one and has some wealth they need to get rid of, leave me a comment! We could sure use some extra wealth here and I promise, none of us are scared of it!
Do you suffer from a fear or phobia? Let us know what it is! Or do you know of any other interesting phobias, I would love to hear some other unique ones!

Just found phobialist.com I guess I have Altophobia- Fear of heights. And don't we all have this, to some extent: Catagelophobia- Fear of being ridiculed. And I have no idea why anyone would have this: Ouranophobia or Uranophobia- Fear of heaven. Unless they lack the certainty they will be there?
ReplyDeleteI have a fear of heights as well....although sometimes I can conquer it some. It just leaves me with sweaty palms and slightly light headed! There were so many to chose from and some where very interesting! I like the ones you highlighted too. Thanks for stopping by.
