5 Question Friday, September 21, 2012

Welcome Friday!  SJ and I are both really excited about it being Friday.  We get to sleep in tomorrow, Sunday and Monday (they have a day off of school already)!  That is high on my craves list.....I even procrastinated this morning and ended up not showering before I got the kids up.  So here I am, still in my jammies (but heck, it's 7 am and I don't have a vehicle for the day so I am stuck home, I can shower later!).

Since it's Friday, let's rock 5 Question Friday.  As always, I am linking up with My Little Life who hosts this great event.

1. What is one grammar issue you cannot let go without correction?  When I was young, my dad was always correcting my grammar.  I did correct my kids occasionally when they were younger.  After being a substitute teacher, you learn to let some things slide.  Some kids in the classrooms constantly make mistakes.  I usually tried to correct them quietly but after awhile, it was just almost useless.  Ain't is a big no no word with me but some kids hear it all the time so they don't understand that it isn't a word.  So I have learned to let some things slide occasionally.  I usually spot misspelled words (unless they are my own....that is frustrating!) because I am such a poor speller.  I probably won't know how to spell it correctly, but I know it is spelled wrong :-D.  You know those facebook posts and emails that are sent with the letters of each word (except the first and last letter) mixed up?  I have trouble reading those.  I can, but I have to sit down and really focus.

2. What's your favorite thing about fall?  Just one thing??  I love the colors.  I absolutely adore Halloween and Thanksgiving.  I love pumpkins, apples and everything you can make with them.  I love ghost stories.  I love the crisp air.  That was the reason I chose to have our wedding in October.  Of course it rained (and I mean down pour) that entire day.  But then our daughter and youngest son were born in October as well so now we have a crazy month on the hill.  I still love it!

3. What's your favourite dish to take to a potluck?  It depends on where I am going and what the occasion is, really!  For my mom's side of the family, I will often try out new recipes.  If I am going to my mom's side for Thanksgiving, then I bake pies.  If we are going to my in-laws, then I make corn casserole.  I don't have just one dish that I take.  Often I will bake some sort of dessert, those are my specialties.

4. When do you start Christmas (Holiday) shopping?  When my kids were young, all my christmas shopping was done by the middle of October- really!  Now I don't even start until the middle of October.  I liked being done early, yes I missed the sales of the Christmas season but I hate crowds so that is okay.  I often am still grabbing stocking stuffers in the middle of December.  Maybe some day I will get back to getting it all done early....right!

5. Did you move homes a lot growing up?
Whoops did I ever read that question wrong.  I thought it said home movies.  Can you tell I was half wake this morning?  Well my parents divorced when I was very young....so technically yes I kind of did move around a lot.  I had two homes and in the beginning my mom did move around a bit.  Then when I was 5 we moved into a house across the street from a park.  We lived there until I was 14.  She still lives in the house that she built when  I was 14.  My dad moved quite a bit as well until he passed when I was 13.  So lots of moving when I was young...less when I got older.  Until I got married...then yep we have moved a lot.  3 apartments, 4 houses and just 18 years of marriage....but we have been in our current house for 6 years and are pretty much stuck here now....with house prices being what they are!

Phew!  Great questions again this week.  What do you think?  What would your answers be?  Let me know- I would love to hear from you.  Have a great Friday!

  1. I too let grammar slide these days although I understand why the kids today can't spell when you have signs like Toys r us that even written backwards.

    1. Plus the sound it out spelling that they allow now. My 4th grader still is unable to spell many words. It drives me nuts. He hasn't had spelling words or spelling tests since 1st grade. UGH!
