In February 2011, I decided to stop ingesting all artificial sweeteners as well as most processed food. At the time I had not read anything that suggested that the above products were making my fibromyalgia any worse. I just knew that I needed to make some serious changes in my life. I knew I could no longer live as I had been living. When you hurt too much to get out of bed all day long, you know that something has to change.
Just recently I have been noticing that now there are some websites out there that agree with my choice. It is nice to realize that others can now find this information and make informed decisions for themselves. Here is one link that I have found especially helpful on Everyday Health.
While I cannot say that I always am successful with eliminating all processed foods, I have been very vigilant at keeping the artificial sweetener out of my diet. Which means watching labels very closely. My husband wanted me to try some Kirkland Vita Rain water because he really likes it. Thankfully I read the label before I took a sip. It had artificial sweetener in it. It means that I no longer chew gum, drink diet soda and I now am a label reader.
Honestly that is okay. I am able to function 99% of the time. I have very few bad days anymore. I feel better now than I have felt in years. Not chewing gum or drinking diet soda anymore is definitely worth feeling good. There is no comparison!
Thanks for stopping by and visiting me here on the hill today. I hope you drop by again soon.

I have heard of many people who are doing this and swear by it. I have not been diagnosed - as I know it is hard to diagnos - but suspect I have it. I have 3 cousins who also have it and were diagnosed after years of eliminating everything else. I chew sugarfree gum constantly. I also drink diet drinks - I may just cut out those 2 things to see if it helps me at all. Great post.
ReplyDeleteNew follower - hope to see you at my blog following as well! Have a great day~
Hi Pamela- thanks for stopping by! I am glad you found this information helpful. I actually had a co-worker suggest the artificial sweetener angle to me two years before I finally made the decision to give it up. I kept figuring that it could not be causing my issues. Boy was I wrong! I cannot guarantee that it will work for everyone but it definitely is worth a try.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find an answer soon. I was diagnosed without much hype- which causes me to wonder if it truly is what I have. I suffered for 2 years but very little testing was done before the label was slapped on me. Now I cannot get away from the label- which can be an issue too.
I sighed up to follow one of your blogs too-- thanks for joining and I hope I can provide some other good information for you so you can learn to live with fibro too!
Good for you for making those changes! It is so hard to cut out all of the things you love so much. I'm struggling with that right now myself, not that I have fibromyalgia, I just know that there are changes I need to make. I'm glad it has helped you feel better.

I think that how I have been able to stick with the changes. I used to drink a lot of diet coke (usually at least 2-20oz a day but I could easily drink 6-8 a day when I was working out of town). I always wanted diet coke when I was thristy, nothing else quenched my thirst. I was sure it wasn't hurting me. It was hard but when you can function at such a higher level-- it is so worth it. I now crave ice tea....I figure that is far better for me! Thanks for stopping by and good luck on your journey!
