Sigh-- I know I need to make a doctor's appointment. I somehow injured my achilles tendon back on March 29. A trip to the med center gave me my diagnoses and how to treat it. I have followed all of their directions but it still is very painful. In fact it often hurts to touch my heel or even to set it on an ice pack. It swells up when I sit down and I hobble. I hobble if I walk too much on it as it becomes so painful. Do you see a trend here? I hobble!
So I know I should probably do a follow up visit with my doctor. After several weeks of stretching, ice, and meds for inflammation nothing has helped. The problem? I have called a few times now to make an appointment and have sat on hold for several minutes listening to the absolute worst music in the entire world. Not only does it hurt your ears but it is very loud and it goes in and out, crackling in your ear.
I can stand it for about 5 minutes maximum and even when I was the next caller to be answered I sat there for 7 minutes and finally gave up. I could not take any more of their hideous music. I have tried now 4 times to get through. The last time I was told I was caller number 7! I knew that there was no way in the world that I could handle the music for that long. I hung up immediately.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle their hideous music? If I turn the volume way down then I cannot hear when someone actually does pick up. They need to have an option where you do not need to listen to their hideous music but where you can sit in silence while you wait for your call to be answered. Either that or they are trying to make people not want to wait so that they will hang up like I keep doing.
I actually put it on speaker phone and my dogs got up and moved away from me, that is how horrible that music is. I always have music on in the house and I listen to all different kinds. This stuff is just so high pitched and ear shattering.
Just an FYI for anyone who works for a company that plays music while your customers are on hold-- try it out for yourself. Have a few different people rate how long they could sit on hold listening to the music. Ask those who have sat listening to the music for than 5 minutes how their ears fared. Seriously, you could save some customers with way! :-D My ears thank you.

I have no suggestions for dealing with the music, sorry.
ReplyDeleteI've learned to just tune it out and do something else until I hear a human on the phone. LOL
The same thing happened to me at the post office, of all places. They put me on hold for 45 minutes, so I finally hung up and drove over there. When I got there, 2 young women were standing next to the phone that was off the hook, talking about their boyfriends. They continued their conversation, even with me standing there, the only customer. Finally one of them turns to me and says, "Can I help you?" I pointed to the phone and said, "Yes, I'm the woman on hold."
ReplyDeleteTheir expressions were priceless, they stuttered, apologized, and helped me right away!
So, my only suggestion is to drive there to make an appointment and, while there, tell them that it was faster to drive there than wait on the phone and that they should change their music if they plan to keep callers on the phone for longer than 3 minutes. Ha!
:-D Thank you both! Gretchin- your story is priceless. I can only imagine the looks on their faces. What happened to customer service? I fear for what we shall become in the future. The doctors office is actually a 45 minute drive away (one way) or I would have just gone in to make the appointment.
ReplyDeleteI did finally get an appointment after a 6 minute wait. I think I will mention their hideous music when I go however. It sure was ear splitting and it always started out in the exact same place each time I called.
Oh that is a long way to drive to make an appointment! Glad it worked out, though!! :-)
