Craves for Saturday 4/28/2012

What a crazy wild week I have had.  I am pretty sure my eyes are currently propped up with toothpicks.  I hope I don't make too many silly errors in the post, I apologize in advance if there are.

It feels as if we are in a stagnant zone- I am ready for fresh fruit and veggies but the growing season for us in Michigan hasn't started yet.  It seems the same things are on sale every single week and it's time for a change.  I get this way pretty much every year around this time.  How about you?

But I always find something to crave each week- so here are my craves for the week:

1. Ice Packs: Yes, really ice packs!  My heel still is causing me pain and it often feels swollen but doesn't look like it is.  So ice packs have been my friend.  I have one that I believe I got from the hospital a few years ago.  It has a nice soft exterior and can be emptied and refilled plus is has ties.  I doubt it is suppose to have been used as much as we have used ours but until it starts leaking, I am going to keep using it!

2.  Chewy Sweet Tarts: SJ and I stopped on our way home from our field trip on Friday and grabbed some candy for the ride home.  He has motion issues but was handling it really well so I thought he deserved a treat.  I decided a little sugar wouldn't hurt me either.  I forgot how much I used to love these things (like way back when I was little!).

3. Pencil thin Asparagus: I found some really super thin asparagus at Aldi's for just 99 cents a package.  I love when they are super thin like that.  I drizzled them with a bit of olive oil, sprinkled with some season salt and parm cheese then roasted them in the oven.  YUM!

4. Chocolate Molasses Cake: While wandering my local thrift store I found a Southern Living Cookbook.  It's from 2005 but it only set me back $1.99.  Tuesday I was stuck at home waiting for the tech to look at our internet so I decided to find something to bake.  I found the recipe for this cake and had all the ingredients on hand.  It is so moist, so yummy.  I will post the recipe soon.

5. Rest: After the busy wild week I have had, I honestly crave just some time to crash.  Curl up in bed with a good book.  Work through my DVR'd shows.  Maybe nap for half an hour or so.  Sound good? It sure does to me!

So what are your craves for the week?  Have you found something new?  Let us know!

Thanks for visiting me here on the hill, stop back again soon!

  1. Sorry to hear about your heel! Hope it heals up really quick.
I've never had asparagus. I've heard it tastes like peas. Is that true?

  2. Hmm- i wouldn't say it tastes like peas at all. it tastes like asparagus! There really isn't anything that tastes like it. I wasn't too fond of it as a child but now I love it. I started roasting it last year and now all my kids love it too!

My hubby (Jamie) just found us 3 stalks of asparagus in our backyard. Now he just needs to find a bunch more or I need to get over to Aldis!
