Craves for the first week of April, 2012

April you are finally here.  Which must mean spring is almost here.  Maybe-- I see that the weather forecast seems to think that we are in need of a mix of rain and snow on Tuesday.  Mother Nature- we are not in need of any more snow.  We are much in need of some warmer temperatures though.  60 would be wonderful....Please?

April also means that my dreaded birthday is almost here.  I am going to do a give-away.  It is just taking me a bit longer than I had hoped to get it going.  Darn Spring Break!  I have spent too much time being lazy and not enough time working on my blog.  But that is for tomorrow and my confessions!

So-- what are we craving here on the hill this week......Since it is almost Easter it must be:

1. Jelly Beans!: Sour ones, spiced ones, Jolly Rancher flavored ones.  They're all good.  They have been taking care of my chewy candy craving (somewhat but I refuse to buy even more candy for the household!).  They really don't last very long in our household, hours really is all.

2. Fresh Pineapple: This was on sale and I grabbed one.  It was so juicy and sweet.  I ate a bunch for a couple of days.  I guess I should have gotten another one.  I make such a mess cutting it but it is so worth it.

3. Sherbet: This was on sale this past week as well.  I had planned on getting some ice cream for the kids but saw that sherbet was on sale too.  It was cheaper, so I was able to get a few different flavors.  It was so good though that we had to go back and get more.  The kids go on snacking sprees at night.  Food flies through our household like crazy during school breaks.

4. Baseball: My oldest is in the midst of his season already but our youngest just started practice this week.  He has an awesome coach (his dad got talked into volunteering) and our oldest son is going to help out as well.  This is the first level that does kid pitch which means that the kids need help working on their pitching.  I think it will be good for H to help out and help teach some younger ones some pitching techniques.

5. Spent Grain Bread: My hubby brews his own beer.  At first we were putting all the spent grain into our garden.  Then he found a dog biscuit recipe, which the dogs love.  Then he was sure he saw a recipe for bread but he didn't send it to me.  So I went on a hunt for a bread recipe using the spent grain.  I found several and have been testing them out.  I also found a pizza dough recipe which turned out to be beyond good.  So now I get to use some of the grain.  My last batch of bread was awesome- it has a great chewy texture and a wonderful flavor.  Who knew that you could use the grain for such things.

It has been a great Spring Break but honestly, I am looking forward to getting back into our groove.  I have a huge to do list that never got done and quite honestly, I doubt it will get done next week either.  Thankfully I have to answer only to myself but hey, I am probably the hardest task master ever.

Thanks for visiting me here on the hill-- I hope you come back soon.   What are  your craves this week?

  1. Hi there, found you over at Comment Blogger. Stopping in to see your blog...
I've been craving water--which is really good, but sounds kind of boring. I get the spent grain bread. A friend of mine brews beer and always brings bread in when he makes it from the spent grain. VERY tasty and surprisingly so!
