What is Happening on the Hill

Crazy weather has brought us Spring about a month and a half earlier than usual.  While I am definitely not complaining, I am worried about what might happen between now and when spring usually shows up.  The trees are budding and flowers are sprouting.  Hopefully the warm weather sticks around somewhat- cause if not, there is going to be a lot of damage if we get a huge freeze again.  Which will result in high prices for produce this year.  This would not be a good thing as I know I need to stock up even more this year in strawberries and blueberries.  Last year's supply (which should have lasted us some of the winter) was gone in September. We became smooth addicts and used up our winter's supply in just a few short weeks!

So here are some pictures from the past week on the hill.  We have been attacked my flies this spring for some reason.  We always encounter flies in the late summer and early fall.  It drives me completely nuts but I have never encountered them like this before.  They swarmed the side of the house, they swarmed the yard (which made walking through the yard quite eerie) and they swarmed our chairs.  Thankfully they seem to be lightening up some and I was able to sit outside on the deck earlier this week with out being attacked by flies.

Our rhubard is starting to come up!!  I am hoping that this year it will do fairly well.  It is only our 2nd year of being able to pick it and last year's pickings were slim (but I knew the first year probably would be).  My husband is a huge rhubarb fan as is my mom.  I think my oldest enjoys rhubarb as well.  As for the rest of us-- well it makes dad and grandma happy, we just are not big fans of it.

And last, but certainly not least is my beautiful purple flower.  What a wonderful sight to see in the front of the house!  Someday I would like to get more bulbs to plant so we can enjoy early flowers.  My someday list is pretty long though!

Thanks for visiting me here on the hill.  I hope you enjoyed the little trip around my yard.  I should have taken a picture of the swiss chard that survived the winter and is now growing the garden too.  Or the cabbage plants that never died.  It certainly was a strange winter....I am just hoping that spring is here to stay..or summer!

Please come back and visit me again soon.

    1. Loving the weather-- it also scares me some-- I know it won't last until summer!! Hoping that spring is gentle to us this year and summer hurries up and gets here.
