Here's wishing your 2012 started better than mine

Here's to hoping that your new year has started off better than mine has.  Now everyone is healthy (thank goodness) and nothing truly horrible has happened however we have had some interesting turn of events that has left me wondering why me!

First I must say, I am certain that our current house is out to get us.  Just saying-- I will write more on that in another post.   On to what happened to us for the new year.  On December 30 my hubby had the day off.  I decided that it would be a good time to take down my lighted village.  In the past I have kept it up until mid January or later but since I moved my hutch into our kitchen I miss the space that the village takes up.  Since hubby was home he could help haul up all the boxes and haul them back down (genius right?!).  Tubs were brought up, lights came out, houses started going into boxes until I reached one tub.  It had stinky water in it.  The water has soaked into the boxes and made them unusable and did I mention stinky?  Hubby went to see what had happened.  He found a wet spot in the ceiling but no water was leaking at the time.  We threw out the wet boxes, cleaned up the tub and finished taking care of the village.

Move on to New Years Eve.  I started up the dishwasher because it was full (very common in our household-- I hate to do dishes by hand).  Hubby was in the garage brewing a batch of brew and thankfully he walked into the basement to witness water coming from the ceiling, right where the dishwasher is.  We allowed the dishwasher to finish the cycle and hubby planned on dragging the dishwasher out on New Years Day.

New Years day and the dishwasher comes out of its space.  Hubby thinks he needs some new connections and hose so off to the hardware store we go.  He finds what he needs (kind of, of course you cannot buy just pieces parts, one has to buy the entire package of parts but it wasn't too terribly expensive).  Back home and he is working away until all of a sudden I find him sitting at the computer with a piece of the dishwasher in his hands.  Apparently what he thought he needed, he didn't.  What we needed was a new piece that could only be purchased on line.  Of course!

So I was given a choice.  Have hubby hook the dishwasher back up and have it leak through the floor or do dishes by hand until the piece shows up.  Since I really don't want to have to replace the subfloor I decided I could do dishes by hand for a few days.  The dishwasher was placed back in its spot but without being hooked up.  Everything looked fine until I went to do the dishes the first time.....

We had NO hot water in the kitchen sink!  Hubby forgot to mention that he had to turn off the hot water to the dishwasher meaning that we now did not have hot water to the kitchen sink either.  Hubby sat and thought about what could he do?  Since there wasn't an easy fix, I proposed to heat hot water on the stove.  After waiting for what seemed like forever, we realized we could go and get hot water from the bathroom too!    So now not only am I doing dishes by hand, but I have to drag in hot water from the bathroom and heat it on the stove.

We are still waiting for the part- hopefully it will show up by weeks end.  Then maybe my life will get back to normal.  Instead, I am doing dishes by hand 3-4 times a day, hauling in water or heating it on the stove.  I have always said that I would like to get back to a simpler life, however I do like some of my modern day helpers-- like the dishwasher!
